Dy-Mark Zinc Guard Silver Zinc 400g
Dy-Mark Zinc Guard Silver Zinc is a high-performance, fast-drying cold galvanising spray that provides an exceptional protective coating on steel and iron surfaces. It is infused with pure zinc particles that form a galvanic barrier against rust and corrosion, replicating the protection of hot-dip galvanising but in a convenient spray can. It is made for roofing contractors, metal fabricators and maintenance crews working on gutters, flashings, structural steel and fencing.
Key Features and Benefits
- Cathodic protection by acting as a sacrificial anode against rust

Application Guide
Remove loose rust, grease, dirt and contaminants, and clean the surface with a wire brush and degreaser for best results. Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute to disperse the zinc particles, then hold it 20-30 cm from the surface and apply in even light coats, allowing each to dry before the next to avoid runs. Once dry, finish with compatible topcoats for enhanced protection and aesthetics.
Applications
- Touch-up and repair of gutters, flashings and downpipes
- Protecting structural steel, brackets and fencing
- Repairing scratched or damaged galvanised coatings
- Marine and industrial areas needing salt-spray resistance
What You Need To Complete The Job
Etch-prime the bare metal first with Zinc Guard Etch Primer, then top-coat with this Silver Zinc spray, and touch up scratches with Bond Cover Touch-Up. For a bulk liquid metal primer use RGL Metal Primer. Browse the full Paint range for the complete system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is cold galvanising?
It is a zinc-rich coating applied cold from a spray can that provides galvanic protection like hot-dip galvanising. The zinc particles act as a sacrificial anode, so the coating corrodes instead of the steel beneath it.
Where should I use Silver Zinc?
Use it on steel and iron surfaces that need corrosion protection, such as gutters, flashings, structural steel, brackets and fencing, especially in coastal and industrial environments.
Do I need a primer first?
For best results on bare metal, etch-prime first with Zinc Guard Etch Primer, then apply Silver Zinc. On already-galvanised or previously painted surfaces in good condition, it can be applied directly after cleaning.
How fast does it dry?
It is touch dry in about 15 minutes and ready to recoat after 2 hours, so a repair can be completed quickly.
