Overview
Most sealers sit on top of the surface. naNo-Leak FC-111 goes into it. It is a water based silicone resin that penetrates the pores of concrete, masonry, render and roof tiles and makes them water repellent from inside, which is why the surface looks the same afterwards. No sheen, no colour change, no film to peel later.
That matters on anything you do not want to change the appearance of: a brick facade, a rendered wall, a tiled roof, a heritage surface. Chemstuk states the water repellency develops within a few hours to three days after application, and that the product also acts as an anti dusting agent, binding a chalky surface together as it soaks in.
Key Features
- Water based silicone resin that penetrates rather than coating
- Invisible, so the original surface colour is preserved
- Breathable and vapour permeable, so the substrate can still dry out
- Acts as an anti dusting agent on friable surfaces
- Low VOC at under 90 g per litre, and cleaned up with water
- UV resistant, and suited to Australian exterior conditions
Specifications
- Pack sizes: 1 litre and 4 litres
- Coverage: approximately 18 square metres per litre, depending on substrate porosity
- Solids by volume: about 15 percent
- Dry film thickness: 15 to 25 microns. Wet film thickness: 80 to 120 microns
- Touch dry: 30 to 60 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius
- Recoat: 2 to 4 hours. Full cure: 24 hours
- Specific gravity: about 1.05 kg per litre
- VOC: under 90 g per litre
- Applied by airless spray, air spray, brush or roller. Thin with water, 10 to 20 percent maximum
- Shelf life: 12 months at 25 degrees Celsius
What It Protects Against
- Humidity and water infiltration
- Acid rain and surface erosion
- Freeze and thaw cycling
- Moss and lichen growth
- Efflorescence
Applications
- Concrete walls and facades
- Roof tiles and cement sheeting
- Exterior masonry, brick and render
- Porous substrates that need protecting without a film
- Over existing waterproofing membranes
What You Need to Complete the Job
Surfaces have to be clean, dry and free of dust, grease, oil and loose material, and the concrete should be sound and properly cured before you start. Do not apply above 80 percent relative humidity, or when the substrate is within 3 degrees Celsius of the dew point. Fill cracks with Quick Fill PE-115 first, because a penetrating sealer will not bridge them. If you want a gloss wet look instead of an invisible finish, that is Beton Seal AU-845, and for a coloured surface it is Pave Cover PC-631. The full range is in Concrete Sealers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it change how the surface looks?
No. Chemstuk describes it as maintaining invisibility and preserving the original surface colour. It is the opposite of a wet look sealer.
How much do I need?
About 18 square metres per litre, though a porous brick or render will take noticeably more than a dense concrete panel. Test a small area first to work out your real rate.
Can I use it on a tiled roof?
Chemstuk lists roof tiles and cement sheets among the recommended uses. It is applied by spray, brush or roller and it does not form a film, so it will not peel off a tile later.
Does it stop water coming through a crack?
No. It makes a sound, porous surface repel water. A crack or a moving joint needs filling or a liquid applied membrane instead.
