Overview
Wathane AC-631 is the water based option in the Chemstuk sealer range. It is a single component polyurethane with a satin finish, made for timber and concrete, and it is the one people reach for when the job is indoors and a solvent based coating is not practical.
That is the real advantage of it. Low VOC at under 65 grams per litre, water clean up, and no strong solvent smell through a house or an office while it dries. It is non yellowing and UV resistant, so it holds its appearance in a room with a lot of natural light, and it works over decorative epoxy flake as well as over timber.

Surface Preparation
The surface has to be clean, dry and free of dust, oil and contamination before you start. Concrete should be fully cured, and timber should be properly sanded and dusted off. On a flake floor, abrade lightly and vacuum thoroughly so there is nothing loose under the sealer. Two coats are the normal specification, and the coverage figures above assume that.
What You Need to Complete the Job
Over a decorative flake floor, the system underneath is Indopox E6-133 with Color Chips broadcast into it, and Wathane is the clear finish that goes over the top. If the floor gets wet, an entrance or a wet area, stir Grip-PE 711 into the final coat and back roll to keep the spread even. The full range is in Concrete Coatings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use it on timber floors?
Yes. Chemstuk lists timber flooring, parquet and hardwood among the recommended uses, alongside concrete. The timber needs to be sanded and dusted off first.
Is it suitable for indoor use?
That is what it is for. It is water based with VOC under 65 grams per litre, so it is far easier to work with indoors than a solvent based polyurethane, and it cleans up with water.
How long between coats?
It is touch dry in about 6 hours at 20 degrees Celsius and hard dry at 24 hours. Full cure takes seven days, so keep heavy furniture and traffic off it until then.
Can it go outside?
Chemstuk lists interior and covered exterior applications. It is not written for a fully exposed slab that takes sun and rain all year, which is what the solvent based polyurethanes in the range are for.
