Overview

Cindopox E6-143 is the clear coat that goes over a flake floor. It is a two-pack epoxy at 99 percent solids, which means almost nothing evaporates out of it as it cures, so the film you pour on is close to the film you keep. It flows out level, buries the edges of the flake, and dries clear.

That thickness is the point. A thin clear coat over a flake floor leaves you feeling the chip edges underfoot. Cindopox is built at 200 microns per coat, so it fills between the flakes rather than draping over them, and Chemstuk rates it to 110 degrees Celsius in service.

Mixing And Working Time

Chemstuk’s instruction is to mix at low speed for three minutes and not to thin the product. Forty minutes of pot life at 25 degrees Celsius halves on a hot slab, and a full bucket of mixed solids epoxy generates its own heat, so mix in smaller batches and get the material onto the floor rather than leaving it standing.

What You Need to Complete the Job

Over bare concrete this is a glaze, not a primer, so prime the slab with Primit E6-111 first. Over a flake floor, scrape off any proud Color Chips and vacuum thoroughly before you glaze. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cindopox UV stable?

No, and Chemstuk says so plainly. On a floor that gets direct sun through a roller door or a skylight, finish with an aliphatic polyurethane over the top so the glaze does not amber.

What happens if I miss the 72 hour recoat window?

Inside the window the coats bond chemically. Past it the surface has hardened off, so the floor has to be abraded back to a uniform matt and vacuumed before anything else goes on it.

How much does a 24 litre kit cover?

About 127 square metres per coat at 200 microns. Over a heavily flaked floor the first coat disappears into the chips, so budget for more than the theoretical figure.

What condition does the slab need to be in?

Chemstuk specifies concrete of at least 25 N per square millimetre, at least 28 days old, free of laitance and curing membranes, and dry to 75 percent relative humidity tested to ASTM F2170.
