More Information

Overview

The Dulux Avista Resurfacing Compound is a polymer-modified cementitious coating made to renew worn concrete driveways, patios and pool surrounds without pouring a new slab. Mixed with a Dulux Avista Colour Oxide, it is applied by trowel or spray to give an old surface a fresh, decorative finish. A 20kg bag covers 20 to 24 square metres.

It is the base coat of the five step Dulux Avista Resurfacing System: clean, prime, base coat, texture coat and seal. Used with the Avista primer, oxides and sealers, it gives an existing concrete surface a new wearing face that is coloured through and protected.

What You Need to Complete the Job

Start with a clean, sound surface, then apply a coat of Dulux Avista Resurfacing Primer so the overlay bonds. Mix the compound with a Resurfacing Oxide for colour, apply, then seal with a Dulux Avista concrete sealer. In cool weather, add the Resurfacing Accelerator to keep the cure on schedule. See the Concrete Sealers range for the full system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I resurface over a cracked driveway?

Small surface cracks and spalls should be filled first with a repair product such as the Dulux Avista Patch Repair Compound. Structural cracks, subsidence or a slab that is still moving are not suitable for an overlay, because the movement will telegraph through the new coating. Repair the damage, then prime and apply the compound.

How do I colour the resurfacing compound?

Mix a Dulux Avista Resurfacing Oxide into the compound during mixing for an integral colour that runs through the full thickness of the coat. The oxide is dosed at the rate stated on the oxide pack, and one 1kg bag colours one 20kg bag of compound. Always mix a small test batch first to confirm the shade.

How long does the resurfacing system take?

Allow the primer to dry, then apply the compound as the base coat. The texture coat goes on once the base coat can take it, and the surface is sealed after the compound has cured. Working times depend on temperature and humidity, so check the technical data sheet for recoat and curing windows before you start.

Do I need a sealer over the resurfacing compound?

Yes. The compound is the base coat of the system and is not a wearing finish on its own. Once it has cured, seal it with a Dulux Avista concrete sealer to protect the surface from stains, weathering and wear. The sealer also deepens the colour of the oxide finish.
