More Information

Overview

The Dulux Avista Resurfacing Accelerator is a calcium chloride based liquid additive that speeds up the setting and drying of the Dulux Avista Resurfacing Compound in cooler weather. Between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius, standard curing times stretch out, and the accelerator keeps the project on schedule by speeding the reaction between cement and water.

The 4L bottle holds enough accelerator for 8 to 11 bags of Resurfacing Compound. It is mixed into the gauging water before the compound is added, so it spreads evenly through the whole batch. It is the cold weather addition for concreters and DIYers resurfacing driveways, paths and patios in autumn and winter.

Key Features

  • Calcium chloride based accelerator for the Avista Resurfacing Compound
  • Counteracts the slow set caused by cool temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees Celsius
  • 32% w/w calcium chloride solution
  • Dose of 350 to 500 mL per batch of compound
  • One 4L bottle accelerates 8 to 11 bags
  • Mixed into the gauging water for even distribution

Specifications

  • Pack size: 4L bottle
  • Chemistry: calcium chloride, 32% w/w solution
  • Dosage: 350 to 500 mL per batch
  • Batch water: 3.25 to 3.5 litres per batch
  • Working range: use when ambient temperature is 10 to 15 degrees Celsius
  • Maximum dose: 500 mL per batch, do not exceed

Applications

  • Resurfacing concrete driveways in cooler months
  • Keeping patios and paths on schedule during autumn and winter
  • Commercial resurfacing jobs with tight deadlines in marginal temperatures
  • Any Avista Resurfacing Compound job at 10 to 15 degrees Celsius

What You Need to Complete the Job

Add 350 to 500 mL of the accelerator to a clean bucket with 3.25 to 3.5 litres of clean water, then mix in the Resurfacing Compound and any Colour Oxide. Prime the surface first with the Resurfacing Primer. Shop the whole system in the Concrete Sealers range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the accelerator in warm weather to make the compound set faster?

No. The accelerator is for cool conditions of 10 to 15 degrees Celsius only. Above 15 degrees the compound sets at its normal rate, and adding the accelerator can make it flash set, causing cracking, poor workability and reduced strength. In hot weather you are more likely to need a retarder than an accelerator.

What happens if I add more than 500 mL per batch?

Overdosing can cause flash setting, where the mix stiffens almost immediately and becomes unworkable, plus increased shrinkage cracking and durability issues. The 500 mL maximum is a hard limit. If you need a faster set than that, the practical fix is to wait for warmer conditions rather than push the dose higher.

Is the accelerator compatible with coloured resurfacing compound?

Yes. It works with the Dulux Avista Colour Oxides and pre-coloured compound. The calcium chloride does not affect iron oxide pigments, although at high dose rates it can slightly lighten some colours. If colour matching is critical, test a small batch before the full job.

Does the accelerator affect the final strength?

At the recommended dose it has no detrimental effect on final compressive strength. The faster early strength gain can actually help the surface resist damage from rain or foot traffic sooner. Long term durability is not compromised when the product is used as directed.
