The Dulux Avista Oxide Black is a UV-stable synthetic iron oxide pigment for colouring concrete, mortar, render and resurfacing compounds. The 10kg bag gives a rich, consistent jet-black colour that is lightfast, alkali-resistant and weatherproof, so decorative concrete keeps its deep tone over the years.

It is made for the Dulux Avista concrete colouring and resurfacing system. The oxide can be mixed into concrete at the batching stage, added to a resurfacing compound for colour-through work, or used with the Avista Colour Hardener for a more intense surface colour. Fine particles give even dispersion through the mix.

What You Need to Complete the Job

Mix the oxide thoroughly with the dry cement and sand before adding water, or add it at the batching stage for a full slab. For a colour-through finish, add it to the Resurfacing Compound during mixing. The Colour Through range covers the other integral shades. How much Oxide Black do I need for a project?

Oxide pigments are added at 2 to 8% by weight of the cement content. For a standard black concrete mix with 350kg of cement per cubic metre, a 4% dosage works out to about 14kg of oxide per cubic metre. For a resurfacing compound, follow the specific product instructions and test a small batch first.

Will the colour fade over time?

No. Synthetic iron oxide pigments are chemically stable and do not fade under UV exposure. Unlike organic dyes, they keep their colour for the life of the concrete. Any apparent fading is usually surface wear exposing natural concrete, not pigment breakdown.

Can I mix Oxide Black with other oxide colours?

Yes. Oxides can be blended to create custom shades. Mixing black with red gives deeper burgundy tones, and blending with yellow creates earthy browns. Pre-blend the dry oxides thoroughly before adding them to the cement and record your ratios so future batches match.
