More Information

Overview

The Dulux Avista Colour Stains are concentrated acid-based concrete stains that react chemically with the concrete to create unique, variegated colour effects. Unlike a surface coating, the stain penetrates the concrete, so the finish is permanent and will not peel or flake.

Because the colour comes from a chemical reaction with the lime in the concrete, every surface takes the stain a little differently. That variation is the point: it gives plain concrete a one-of-a-kind, mottled finish that suits driveways, patios, paths and interior floors. A range of colours is available.

What You Need to Complete the Job

Clean the concrete thoroughly, apply the stain and let it react, then neutralise and rinse as directed before sealing. Protect the finished colour with a clear Dulux Avista General Purpose Sealer for a natural finish or the Semi-Gloss for more depth. Sealers are in the Concrete Sealers range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is an acid stain different from a tinted sealer?

An acid stain reacts chemically with the concrete, so the colour is part of the surface and does not sit in a film that can peel or wear. A tinted sealer is a surface coating that adds colour on top. Acid stains give a variegated, mottled result; tinted sealers give a more uniform colour.

Can I get a uniform colour with these stains?

Not in the way a paint gives a uniform colour. Acid stains are designed to react unevenly, which creates the natural, variegated look that is the appeal of the product. If you want a flat, even colour, a tinted sealer or a colour hardener is the better tool.

Do I need to seal the stained surface?

Yes. Sealing protects the stained surface from stains, wear and weather, and it deepens the colour. Use a clear Dulux Avista sealer once the stain has been neutralised, rinsed and dried. Sealing also makes the surface easier to clean over time. Because the stain is a chemical reaction with the concrete, the sealed film is what takes the daily wear, and a maintenance coat applied when the surface starts to look tired will refresh the finish.
