Wakaflex 280mm x 5m
Wakaflex is a lead-free flashing roll made from durable polyisobutylene (PIB) with an embedded aluminium mesh and twin butyl sealing strips. It is a universal flashing for roof and wall joints, chimneys, dormers, valleys and pipe penetrations, and it replicates the performance of traditional lead without the health and environmental concerns. The 280mm x 5m roll is the most common size, and the material chemically bonds to itself with a minimal 30 to 50mm overlap, so there is no mastic or heat welding involved.
Key Features
- 280mm wide x 5m roll, also available in 10m
- Chemically self-bonds with a minimal 30-50mm overlap

How To Apply It
Clean the surface and lay the Wakaflex over the joint, pressing it down along the twin butyl strips. Where two pieces meet, overlap them by 30 to 50mm and press firmly; the material chemically bonds to itself to form a continuous watertight seal. Stretch it gently around corners and penetrations as you go. No mastics, no heat and no mechanical fixings are required.
Applications
- Flashing roof-to-wall joints, chimneys and dormers
- Valleys, ridges and pipe penetrations
- Sealing around skylights and roof fixtures
- Bushfire-prone areas where a BAL-29 flashing is wanted
What You Need To Complete The Job

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Wakaflex made from?
It is a polyisobutylene (PIB) flashing with an embedded aluminium mesh and twin butyl sealing strips. The construction gives it the body of lead with the flexibility to dress over complex profiles, without the toxicity.
How does it self-bond?
The material chemically bonds to itself when two surfaces are pressed together. You only need a 30 to 50mm overlap, and the bond forms a continuous watertight seal without mastic or heat welding.
Is it rated for bushfire areas?
Yes. It is BAL-29 compliant, which makes it suitable for use in bushfire-prone areas where a BAL-rated flashing is specified.
Can I use it on a chimney?
Yes. It is a common choice for chimney and dormer flashings because it dresses over the profile and self-bonds at the joints, giving a lead-like finish without cutting and bossing lead sheet.
Can I order for delivery or pickup?
Yes. You can order online and choose Australia-wide delivery or pickup from our Truganina trade counter in Melbourne’s west.
