Trade Mortar 20kg
Trade Mortar is a factory-blended M4 bricklaying mortar from Cement Australia that meets AS 3700. The cement, sand and additives are proportioned under factory control, so each bag is consistent in strength and colour. It is supplied in a 20kg bag and needs nothing added but water, which removes the guesswork of mixing mortar by hand on site.

Mixing And Work Time
Add clean water gradually to a mixer or wheelbarrow and follow the bag instructions to reach a workable consistency. Only mix what you can use within one hour, because adding water later to re-temper the mix weakens the mortar. Apply with a trowel and wait until the mortar is touch dry before raking or finishing the joints.
What You Need To Complete The Job
Apply the mortar with an OX PRO gauging trowel for control on detail work, and add oxide colour if the mix needs to match an existing mortar. Mix larger batches with an OX PRO mixing drill. Browse the Concreting range for more.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is M4 mortar?
M4 is a mortar strength classification under Australian Standard AS 3700. It is a mid-strength general purpose mortar suited to most house brickwork and blockwork, giving a reliable bond for structural and non-structural walls.
How much does a 20kg bag cover?
A 20kg bag lays approximately 20 house bricks or 10 masonry blocks, assuming 10mm mortar joints. That makes it simple to work out how many bags a job needs before you start.
What do I add to the mortar?
Water only. The bag already contains the correct proportion of cement, sand and additives, so there is no need to add more material. Add water gradually until the mix reaches a workable consistency.
How long can I use the mix?
Use the mixed mortar within one hour. Do not add water later to soften it, because re-tempering weakens the mortar and reduces its strength. Mix in batches you can place within that time.
