Dulux Avista 2 Pack Urethane Part A 8.75L — Premium High-Gloss Concrete Sealer

The Dulux Avista 2 Pack Urethane Part A is the main resin component of a premium two-part, solvent-based urethane sealer that delivers an exceptional high-gloss, non-yellowing finish for both interior and exterior decorative concrete. When combined with 2 Pack Urethane Part B (1.25L, sold separately), the cured coating provides outstanding UV resistance, very good chemical and solvent resistance, and a hard-wearing surface suitable for high-traffic areas.

This is the flagship clear sealer in the Dulux Avista range — chosen by professional concreters for premium residential and commercial projects where appearance and durability are equally critical. It is suitable for stamped and stencilled concrete, exposed aggregate, coloured concrete, flake flooring systems, and even polished concrete bench tops.

Important: Part A (8.75L) and Part B (1.25L) together form a 10L kit at a 7:1 mixing ratio. Both parts must be purchased. Pot life after mixing is approximately 3–4 hours at 25 °C.

Key Features & Benefits

  • High-Gloss, Non-Yellowing Finish: Delivers a deep, wet-look sheen that will not yellow under UV exposure — keeps decorative concrete looking showroom fresh.
  • Excellent UV Resistance: Formulated for Australian sunlight — resists fading and degradation far better than standard acrylic sealers.
  • Very Good Chemical Resistance: Stands up to fuels, oils, cleaning chemicals, and general wear in residential and commercial environments.
  • Interior & Exterior Use: One product for all premium sealing applications — from outdoor driveways to indoor polished concrete benches.
  • Good Pot Life: 3–4 hours working time allows unhurried application of large areas per mix.
  • AS 4586:2013 Compliant Slip Resistance: Achieves D1 classification (COF 0.60 mean dry) — compliant for pedestrian surfaces.

System Specifications (when mixed with Part B)

  • Mix Ratio: 7 parts Part A : 1 part Part B (by volume)
  • Kit Size: 8.75L Part A + 1.25L Part B = 10L total
  • Pot Life: 3–4 hours at 25 °C
  • Tack-Free: 30 min – 2 hours
  • Recoat: 3–24 hours
  • Full Cure: 7 days
  • Coverage: 3–10 m² per litre (depending on porosity)
  • VOC Content: 588 g/L
  • Solids: 39 ± 2% w/w

Application Guidance

Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, and existing coatings that may interfere with adhesion. New concrete must be fully cured (minimum 28 days).

Mixing: Add the full contents of Part B (1.25L) to Part A (8.75L). Mix thoroughly with a paint stirrer for a minimum of 3 minutes, ensuring the hardener is fully dispersed. Mix only full kits — do not attempt to split the kit due to the precise ratio.

Application: Apply by brush, 100% mohair 4 mm pile nap roller, or airless spray. Apply thin, even coats. Two coats are recommended for optimal gloss and durability.

Clean-Up: Clean tools with a suitable solvent immediately after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the 2 Pack Urethane compare to a standard single-pack sealer?

The key difference is chemical curing. Single-pack sealers dry by solvent evaporation — they can be softened or damaged by the same solvents after drying. Two-pack urethanes undergo a chemical cross-linking reaction that creates a far tougher, more chemical-resistant film. This means better resistance to fuel spills, tyre marks, and cleaning chemicals — and a significantly longer service life in demanding conditions.

2. Can I apply this over an existing acrylic sealer?

It is not recommended to apply urethane directly over acrylic sealers without proper preparation. The solvents in the urethane can lift or wrinkle the acrylic beneath. If you wish to upgrade from acrylic to urethane, the existing sealer should be completely stripped and the surface properly prepared before application. Always test a small area first.

3. Is this sealer suitable for my swimming pool surround?

Yes — the 2 Pack Urethane is suitable for exterior pool surrounds, with its excellent UV and chemical resistance making it a strong choice. However, the high-gloss finish may be slippery when wet. For pool surrounds, add a slip-resistant additive to the final coat and ensure the surface meets the slip resistance requirements of AS 4586.

4. How long before I can drive on my newly sealed driveway?

Allow 7 days for full cure before subjecting the surface to vehicle traffic. Whilst the sealer may be tack-free within 30 minutes to 2 hours and walkable much sooner, the full chemical cure that provides resistance to tyre marking and fuel spills takes a full week. Rushing this step is the most common cause of premature coating failure.

5. Why can I not buy Part A and Part B in a combined kit?

The two parts are sold separately to give customers flexibility — for example, if you need multiple kits for a large project, or if you need a replacement part due to damage in transit. Always ensure you purchase both Part A (8.75L) and Part B (1.25L) — neither will function without the other.

6. What is the shelf life of unmixed product?

When stored in original, unopened containers in cool, dry conditions, both Part A and Part B have a shelf life of approximately 24 months. Once opened, reseal tightly and use within the recommended period. Do not store mixed product — it will cure in the container.

7. Can I tint the 2 Pack Urethane?

The 2 Pack Urethane is designed as a clear, high-gloss coating and is not intended to be tinted. If you require a coloured finish, consider using the Dulux Avista Tintable Base systems (solvent-based or waterbased) as your colour coat, and then overcoat with the 2 Pack Urethane for maximum durability and gloss.
