More Information

Sutton Viper D105 6.0mm HSS Jobber Drill Bit

The Sutton Viper D105 is a 6.0mm high speed steel jobber drill bit, made to DIN338 dimensions and sold carded as a single bit. Six millimetre is one of the most common drilling sizes in metal and timber work, used for clearance holes, pilot holes and general fabrication. The Viper point is a 118 degree split point that self centers on the mark, starts without walking, and cuts up to 2 times faster than a conventional HSS bit with less pressure on the drill.

Key Features

  • Viper point design delivers up to 2 times faster drilling than conventional HSS bits
  • 118 degree self centering split point
  • DIN338 HSS jobber geometry in a 6.0mm diameter
  • Reduced drilling pressure for better control
  • Suits machine and hand held drilling
  • Carded single bit for the toolbox

What You Need To Complete The Job

A 6.0mm bit works in a standard corded or cordless drill at a fast speed with a steady feed. When you are fixing into concrete or brick, change to an SDS masonry drill, and for larger holes in steel follow with a pilot drill. The wider fastening range lives in General Hand Tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 6mm drill bit used for?

A 6mm HSS bit is the standard clearance size for M6 bolts and a common pilot for M8. It is a core size for metal brackets, hinges, and general steel and timber work, and one of the first bits a fitter reaches for.

What speed should I use for a 6mm bit in steel?

Use a fast speed and a moderate, steady feed with a little cutting oil on steel. At 6mm the bit is strong enough to take pressure without flexing, but forcing it still overheats the edge.

Can this bit drill brick or concrete?

No. HSS jobber bits are for metal, wood and plastics. For brick and concrete use an SDS masonry drill from the same range, which has the carbide tip and flute design made for masonry.

Is 6mm a good size for a general kit?

Yes. A 6mm HSS bit earns its place in almost every kit because it covers M6 clearance, most door and window hardware, and a wide share of everyday fabrication jobs.
