More Information

Sutton D613 5mm x 160mm SDS Masonry Drill Bit

The Sutton D613 is a 5mm two cutter SDS masonry drill bit with a 160mm working length, the smallest size in the D613 series. Sutton rates it as professional quality and states it drills 30% faster than conventional SDS drills. The 5mm size is the hole for small wall plugs and light anchors in concrete, brick, aerated concrete, stone and granite, and the long 160mm working length gets through thick mortar beds and block.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a sand blasted finish?

The sand blasted finish is the way the bit is finished during production. Sutton states it is an environmentally friendly method with zero heavy metals, and the finish leaves a clean surface that does not bind in the hole as the bit works.

What is a 5mm masonry drill used for?

A 5mm SDS masonry bit drills the pilot and fixing holes for small wall plugs and light anchors. It is a common size for shelving, light brackets and shallow fixings in brick and block.

Why does the 5mm bit have a long working length?

The 160mm working length lets you reach through thick mortar beds, cavity blocks and multi layer materials without the shank binding. It is more length than a short 5mm bit, which suits fixing through assembled masonry.

Will the tip walk on tiles?

No. The Z shape self centering point bites into smooth surfaces like tiles and polished concrete, so the hole starts on the mark. Start with light pressure and let the point establish the hole.

Is this bit too long for a 5mm hole?

Not at all. Extra working length is a benefit when you are drilling through thick material; for shallow holes you simply drill to the depth you need and stop.
