More Information

Overview

The Foamjoint adhesive back expansion joint is a closed cell polyethylene foam strip used as a compressible filler in concrete and masonry movement joints. It is 75mm deep and 10mm thick, supplied on a 25m roll, with a self adhesive backing that sticks straight to a slab edge or wall without extra fasteners.

Because the foam is closed cell, it will not absorb moisture, rot or break down in the concrete. It compresses under light load and rebounds to its original shape, so the concrete can expand and contract while the joint stays sealed. A 10mm tear off strip at the face leaves a clean recess for sealant once the concrete has cured.

What You Need to Complete the Job

Fit the foam joint before the pour, then strike the concrete off level with it. Once the slab has cured, trim the tear off strip and tool a gauging trowel over the joint as you finish. Browse the Concreting Tools range for the rest of the finishing kit and keep a Dunlop gauging trowel handy for cleaning the joint face.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Foamjoint used for?

Foamjoint is a compressible filler for concrete and masonry movement joints. It sits in the joint before the concrete is poured, compresses when the concrete expands and rebounds when it contracts, and the tear off strip leaves a clean recess to fill with sealant after the pour. It keeps the joint working as a joint instead of cracking.

How does the adhesive backing work?

The foam has a self adhesive strip on the back that sticks directly to the slab edge or wall, so no fasteners or glue are needed. Peel off the liner, press the strip into place and it holds while the concrete is placed against it. The 10mm tear off strip at the front is removed after the concrete cures.

What size is this roll?

The foam is 75mm deep and 10mm thick on a 25m roll. That depth suits standard slab and kerb joint depths, and the 25m roll covers a long continuous run without joins. If you need a different depth or thickness, check the other Foamjoint listings in the range.
