More Information

Ampelite Solasafe Lvl 2 Polycarbonate Roofing Sheet (SolaFrost)

The Ampelite Solasafe Lvl 2 Polycarbonate, also known as SolaFrost, is a 0.8mm corrugated polycarbonate roofing sheet engineered for outdoor areas where glare reduction and natural light matter equally. A soft matt texture on the underside diffuses harsh sunlight, so the space beneath stays bright without the hot spots and glare you get from a plain clear sheet. It is a natural fit for carports, pergolas, patios, walkways and verandas.

This is the Lvl 2 sheet in the Ampelite Solasafe range, which means it is built to Australian conditions with 99.9% UV blocking, zero ignitability to AS/NZS 1530.3, and compliance with the main Australian polycarbonate roofing standards. It is rated for use in BAL-12.5 and BAL-19 bushfire zones, which makes it a practical option for many Australian properties, and it performs across a working temperature range of roughly -40°C to +110°C.

The sheet uses a 760mm cover width in a corrugated profile and is supplied in standard lengths from 1.8m to 8.1m. Because polycarbonate expands and contracts with temperature, the sheet is designed to be fixed with the recommended screw spacing and clearance holes, and the thermal expansion allowance is roughly 21.6mm over an 8m run between 0°C and 40°C.

What You Need To Complete The Job

Fix the sheet with polycarbonate roofing screws that have a bonded washer, and lay a foam tape or purlin tape along the supports to stop creaking and protect the sheet from the frame. The fixing accessories live in the Polycarbonate Accessories category. The sheet itself is part of the Ampelite range, inside the wider Polycarbonate Roofing range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the matt underside do?

The matt texture on the underside diffuses the light passing through the sheet, spreading it evenly instead of letting harsh direct sunlight and hot spots through. That is what makes the space beneath comfortable on bright days while keeping the sheet mostly clear from above.

What is the difference between SolaFrost Clear and Grey?

SolaFrost Clear transmits 87% of light with 74.3% heat transmission, so it is the bright option. SolaFrost Grey drops light to 27% and heat to 49.87%, giving much stronger shade and glare control. Choose clear for maximum daylight and grey for cooler, shadier areas.

Is it suitable for bushfire-prone areas?

The sheet is rated for use in BAL-12.5 and BAL-19 zones. For higher BAL ratings, check the full assembly requirements with your builder or certifier, because the whole roof system and installation method affect the final BAL outcome.

What standard lengths are available?

Standard lengths run from 1.8m up to 8.1m. The sheet is supplied in fixed standard lengths rather than cut to a custom size, so choose the closest length to your run and allow for the recommended overhang and fixing spacing.

How should the sheet be fixed?

Use polycarbonate roofing screws with a bonded washer, driven at the recommended spacing on the sheet crests, and allow for thermal movement in the fixing holes. Lay a purlin tape along the supports to stop the sheet creaking against the frame.
