About the EERA Trimrib Notcher
The EERA Trimrib Notcher is a ridge cap cutter for the Trimrib profile, which EERA identifies as a New Zealand profile. It cuts notches in the folded edge of a ridge cap or flashing so the capping sits down over each 27mm rib. EERA designs and manufactures it in Warrnambool, Victoria.
In the trade the same tool goes by a few names: ridge cap cutter, roof cap cutter or ridge cap puncher. Whatever you call it, the job is the same. It replaces the slow work of marking every rib and cutting each notch with snips.
Because the head is sized to the 27mm Trimrib rib, the notches come out the same from the first rib to the last. That consistency is what lets a ridge cap sit evenly along the full length of the roof.

Folding Before You Notch
EERA’s recommended fold for Trimrib flashing or trim is 90 degrees on a sheet metal folder, at 27mm long. That matches the 27mm rib height, so the notched edge drops over the rib and sits flat on the pan between. Fold the full length first, then work along it with the notcher, seating the head at each rib and pulling the lever.
What You Need to Complete the Job
Ridge caps and flashings are usually folded from flat sheet, and our 1200mm wide Colorbond or Zincalume flat sheet is a common starting point. For ready made shapes, see the custom flashing range. Other EERA notchers and our snips, riveters and seamers sit in the Metal Roofing Tools range.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Trimrib the same as Trimdek?
No. EERA makes separate tools for each, and the published notch sizes differ. The Trimrib notcher cuts a 27mm high notch, 64mm at the base and 26mm at the top. The EERA Trimdek notchers are 30mm or 37mm high with a 60mm base. Because the blades are not interchangeable, match the tool to the profile on your roof.
Can it cut hips?
No. EERA lists hip cutting as not available on this tool. The Trimrib notcher is made for notching straight ridge caps and flashings along the ribs. Hips and other angled cuts still need to be marked and cut with snips in the usual way.
Can the blades be sharpened?
Yes. EERA states the blades are high strength hardened steel and are both sharpenable and replaceable. Blade life depends on how much the tool is used and how it is maintained. Replacement blades for Trimrib are by enquiry, so call us on (03) 9394 1400 and we will check supply with EERA.
Do I need power to run the notcher?
No. The Trimrib notcher works by a manual lever, so there is no lead, battery or compressor to take onto the roof. It can be used at the folder or up on the roof. The tool measures 560 x 130 x 150mm and has a net weight of 6kg.
